There are several sections of this Act which pertain to regulating impacts to wetlands. Section 101 specifies the objectives of this Act which are implemented largely through Title III (Standards and Enforcement), Section 301 (Prohibitions). The discharge of dredged or fill material into waters of the United States is subject to permiting specified under Title IV (Permits and Licenses) of this Act and specifically under Section 404 (Discharges of Dredge or Fill Material) of the Act . Section 401 (Certification) specifies additional requirements for permit review particularly at the state level.
