Seeking mid-level environmental scientist with at least 4 years of experience performing wetland delineations; preparing technical studies related to aquatic resources; conducting endangered and threatened species (ETS) surveys; assessing potential impacts to ETS; and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands and ETS issues.  Experience with federal and state Clean Water Act permit applications a plus.  Strong knowledge of/experience in one or more of the following fields desired:  vegetation identification, soil profiling; general natural history knowledge/interest required.  Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors highly desirable.  Must be willing to regularly travel regionally and state-wide.  BA/BS required, MS desirable with PWS (or WPIT) and PWD certification preferred.

WSSI is seeking a mid-level (or senior) candidate to be trained and mentored by a nationally recognized senior tree preservation expert and related skilled technical and management staff. Candidate should be experienced with performing specimen tree assessments (CTLA or TRAQ); reviewing civil, architectural, and landscape architecture plans, details, and specifications for conflicts with trees; and performing forest stand delineations/EVAs. The ideal candidate will possess the skills to work closely with design and construction management teams; prepare tree preservation plans, specifications, and details; prepare educational power points and workshops, proposals and marketing pieces; and other related technical skills regarding arboriculture and urban forestry. Background in urban forestry or landscape architecture is necessary, with strong knowledge of/experience of the following: arboriculture, tree preservation, tree root patterns and morphology, large tree transplanting, and forest and landscape plant identification (including trees/shrubs). Familiarity with the following is preferred: land clearing, site work, residential and commercial construction and renovations, campus, monument and historic sites, corporate, and underground utilities construction. Preference will be given to candidates who possess ISA Certified Arborist credential and have some GIS and/or CAD experience. Knowledge of the ecology of the Mid-Atlantic both natives and invasive species, and an interest in working both indoors and outdoors in varying terrain is required. Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors highly desirable, with a willingness to travel regionally. On the job training will be provided by senior staff along with periodic workshops and classes. BS in forestry, landscape architecture, or closely related field is required.

WSSI is seeking a mid-level civil/environmental or biological engineer with a passion for wetlands, streams, and water resources. Projects include stream restoration, low impact development, wetlands mitigation design, and floodplain studies. Ideal candidate will have from five to eight years of experience, PE (or EIT with ability to sit for exam within one year of starting), and experience in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and TR-55. Preference will be given to candidates with Rosgen (or equivalent) stream assessment and restoration training. While an engineering background is preferred, candidates with a background in environmental science, landscape architecture, and/or hydrology and the technical ability to perform the aforementioned tasks will also be considered. Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors is highly desirable. Bachelor’s required, Master’s preferred.

WSSI is looking for an experienced Senior Project Surveyor for our Gainesville, VA office.  The ideal candidate will have 8+ years' experience of field and office surveying practices and techniques with progressively increasing responsibilities.

DUTIES

Primary responsibilities of the position include computations, staff and job coordination, Civil 3D drafting associated with survey data including boundary, record plats, legal descriptions, topographic, construction, bathymetric, wetland and stream surveys, and developing and maintaining client relationships.

Candidate must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times, the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively, and the willingness to learn and take on new tasks.

REQUIRED

  • College Diploma or Certificate/Degree or related education in surveying and/or Computer Drafting/Design
  • 8+ years of progressive surveying/drafting work experience
  • Working knowledge of modern survey methods
  • Good working knowledge AutoCAD and Civil 3D drawings
  • Good working knowledge of Windows Explorer, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with respect to projects, CAD standards, etc. on a daily basis
  • Ability to meet job requirements/requests to achieve deadlines
  • Ability to allocate time appropriate to projects based on deadlines
  • Ability to work overtime regularly
  • Strong attention to details while maintaining consistent work flow
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision & resolve issues independently based on project/company standards
