Seeking mid-level environmental scientist with at least 4 years of experience performing wetland delineations; preparing technical studies related to aquatic resources; conducting endangered and threatened species (ETS) surveys; assessing potential impacts to ETS; and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands and ETS issues.  Experience with federal and state Clean Water Act permit applications a plus.  Strong knowledge of/experience in one or more of the following fields desired:  vegetation identification, soil profiling; general natural history knowledge/interest required.  Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors highly desirable.  Must be willing to regularly travel regionally and state-wide.  BA/BS required, MS desirable with PWS (or WPIT) and PWD certification preferred.

WSSI is seeking a mid-level civil/environmental or biological engineer with a passion for wetlands, streams, and water resources. Projects include stream restoration, low impact development, wetlands mitigation design, and floodplain studies. Ideal candidate will have from five to eight years of experience, PE (or EIT with ability to sit for exam within one year of starting), and experience in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and TR-55. Preference will be given to candidates with Rosgen (or equivalent) stream assessment and restoration training. While an engineering background is preferred, candidates with a background in environmental science, landscape architecture, and/or hydrology and the technical ability to perform the aforementioned tasks will also be considered. Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors is highly desirable. Bachelor’s required, Master’s preferred.

WSSI is looking for an experienced Senior Project Surveyor for our Gainesville, VA office.  The ideal candidate will have 8+ years' experience of field and office surveying practices and techniques with progressively increasing responsibilities.

DUTIES

Primary responsibilities of the position include computations, staff and job coordination, Civil 3D drafting associated with survey data including boundary, record plats, legal descriptions, topographic, construction, bathymetric, wetland and stream surveys, and developing and maintaining client relationships.

Candidate must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times, the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively, and the willingness to learn and take on new tasks.

REQUIRED

  • College Diploma or Certificate/Degree or related education in surveying and/or Computer Drafting/Design
  • 8+ years of progressive surveying/drafting work experience
  • Working knowledge of modern survey methods
  • Good working knowledge AutoCAD and Civil 3D drawings
  • Good working knowledge of Windows Explorer, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with respect to projects, CAD standards, etc. on a daily basis
  • Ability to meet job requirements/requests to achieve deadlines
  • Ability to allocate time appropriate to projects based on deadlines
  • Ability to work overtime regularly
  • Strong attention to details while maintaining consistent work flow
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision & resolve issues independently based on project/company standards

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. is seeking a mid-level survey technician (2 to 5 years of experience) to start immediately. The preferred candidate should be a college graduate with a degree or course work in surveying, environmental sciences, forestry, wildlife management, or arboriculture. ISA Certified Arborist a plus. Experience with GPS, Data Collection, and Robotics preferred. This position requires daily field work in all weather conditions - we're looking for a person who loves working outdoors! Some travel will be required for this position. On-the-job training and a 5-year apprenticeship program will help you on your way to licensure.

WSSI is seeking an entry level Environmental Compliance Technician to join our team. Ideal candidates will have a B.S. in Environmental Studies or related field. CPESC, CESSWI, CISEC and/or Maryland MDE Green Card and SHA Yellow Card certifications are preferred, but not required. Job responsibilities will include Maryland/National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) inspections and reporting, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) development. 

Candidates should be organized individuals and possess outstanding communication skills. Daily tasks include coordinating with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding environmental concerns associated with development. Working environment will include both office and fieldwork, concentrating on environmental permit compliance and reporting for active construction sites. Weekend and holiday work may be required and are considered within the realm of job responsibility. Applicants are expected to be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Thunderbird Archeology, a division of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., is seeking Archeological Field Technicians for immediate temporary, project-based, full-time employment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in archeological survey, excavations and laboratory work under the direction of staff archeologists;
  • Artifact identification and processing;
  • Preparing accurate field notes and documentation;
  • Interpretation of soil strata, preparation of field maps depicting the locations of excavations, site/feature boundaries, historic standing structures, and other notable features within the project area.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Archeology or a closely related field and successful completion of an archeological field school or at least three months of field experience;
  • Willingness to travel (per diem and lodging will be provided on projects more than approximately 90 miles from the office);
  • Physical ability to conduct archeological surveys in a variety of settings including urban and rural areas;
  • Physical ability to safely lift 50 pounds;
  • Physical ability to walk to and within project sites over a variety of different terrains in all kinds of weather and standing or walking for long periods of time;
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Thunderbird Archeology, a division of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), is seeking an Archeology Field Supervisor for immediate temporary, project-based employment. Applicant must have an advanced degree in Archeology or a related field, at least ten years of experience in a supervisory role over archeological field projects, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a deep understanding of federal and state preservation law, and physical ability to perform rigorous fieldwork in all weather conditions. Preference will be given to candidates with over ten years of experience in professional archeological research in the Mid-Atlantic or Mid-West regions. The Archeology Field Supervisor will be expected to manage archeological fieldwork including Phase I, II, and III excavations, archeological cemetery delineations, and archeological recovery of human remains; prepare complete plans and reports, perform research, provide computer-aided design work, assist with proposals and interact with clients, officials and contractors. The position will involve frequent travel and remote work opportunities.  Per Diem and lodging will be provided on most projects.
