Wetland Research Initiative (WRI)

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. established the Wetland Research Initiative (WRI) in 2007 to fund applied research that can make a real and measurable difference in wetland creation, restoration, and enhancement activities in the Virginia Piedmont. The WRI has awarded more than $3.3M in grants to support projects asking questions about the overall effectiveness of compensatory mitigation efforts and specifically how design and construction practices should be modified to improve compensatory mitigation functions and values.

The WRI is managed through the non-profit Resource Protection Group, Inc., a 501(c)(3) founded by Mike Rolband.
