WSSI is a seeking an experienced (5+ years of related professional experience), highly motivated Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team in Millersville, Maryland.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Wetlands delineation;

  • Forest stand delineation/Natural resource inventory studies;

  • Wetlands mitigation monitoring;

  • Stream restoration monitoring;

  • Chesapeake Bay Critical Area studies;

  • Assistance with business development;

  • Participating in industry organizations; and

  • Proposal preparation.

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or a related discipline;

  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) designation;

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc.’s Environmental Science Energy Services Travel Team is seeking a mid-level environmental scientist with at least 4 years of experience performing integrated vegetation management along utility rights-of-way; wetland delineations; preparing technical studies related to aquatic resources; conducting endangered and threatened species (ETS) surveys; assessing potential impacts to ETS; and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands and ETS issues.  Experience with federal and state Clean Water Act permit applications is a plus.  Strong knowledge of/experience in one or more of the following fields: integrated vegetation management, vegetation management along utility rights-of way, vegetation identification, soil profiling; practical knowledge of natural history required.  Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors highly desirable, extensive travel is required. BA/BS required, MS favorable with PWS (or WPIT) and PWD certification preferred.

WSSI is looking for an experienced Senior Project Surveyor for our Gainesville, VA office.  The ideal candidate will have 8+ years' experience of field and office surveying practices and techniques with progressively increasing responsibilities.

DUTIES

Primary responsibilities of the position include computations, staff and job coordination, Civil 3D drafting associated with survey data including boundary, record plats, legal descriptions, topographic, construction, bathymetric, wetland and stream surveys, and developing and maintaining client relationships.

Candidate must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times, the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively, and the willingness to learn and take on new tasks.

REQUIRED

  • College Diploma or Certificate/Degree or related education in surveying and/or Computer Drafting/Design

  • 8+ years of progressive surveying/drafting work experience

  • Working knowledge of modern survey methods

  • Good working knowledge AutoCAD and Civil 3D drawings

WSSI is seeking a Civil CAD Technician to provide drafting support to the Survey Department on environmental and water resources projects using AutoCAD 2018 and Civil3D 2018. Minimum one year of experience with a modern release of Civil3D required. Survey experience preferred but not required. WSSI is seeking an entry level environmental compliance technician to join our team. Ideal candidates will have a B.S. in Environmental Studies or related field. CPESC, CESSWI, CISEC and/or Maryland MDE Green Card and SHA Yellow Card certifications are preferred, but not required. Job responsibilities will include Maryland/National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) inspections and reporting, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) development.

 Candidates should possess outstanding communication skills. WSSI is seeking a mid-level environmental compliance technician to join our team. Ideal candidates will have a B.S. in Environmental Studies or related field and at least 1 year of experience performing environmental compliance in relation to Virginia Pollution Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) inspections and reporting. Job responsibilities will include inspections and reporting, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) development, and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands, erosion and sediment control and stormwater compliance.

 Erosion and sediment control certifications are a plus, but not required (CPESC, CESSWI, CISEC, or Virginia DEQ Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector Training & Certifications). 

 Candidates should be organized individuals and possess outstanding communication skills. Daily tasks include coordinating with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding environmental concerns associated with development. Work will concentrate on environmental permit compliance and reporting for active construction sites. Thunderbird Archeology, a division of Wetlands Studies and Solutions, Inc., is currently accepting applications for a full-time Architectural Historian to join our interdisciplinary team including archaeologists, historians, environmental scientists, and engineers among other professionals. The successful candidate will work in the field and the office and must demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to complete tasked assignments to directed specifications, and must also be interested in conducting in-depth research and able to write at a professional level and present ideas in a well-thought out and comprehensive manner.

DUTIES

  • Participating in reconnaissance and intensive architectural surveys, following guidelines set forth by relevant agencies;

  • Performing archival and historical research, including chain of titles, using primary and secondary documentary sources;

  • Writing property descriptions and property histories;

  • Preparing site plans, floor plans, and other measured drawings;

  • Assisting in preparation of historic contexts, historical narratives, significance statements, and National Register justifications;

  • Assisting in preparation of Section 106 effect evaluations; and

  • Contributing to preservation planning projects.

REQUIRED

  • A Master's degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, History, or a closely related field or two-to-four years of experience;

  • Willingness to travel (per diem and lodging will be provided on projects more than approximately 90 miles from the office);

  • Physical ability to conduct architectural surveys in a variety of settings from urban to rural areas;

  • Experience with architectural photography;

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license; and

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
