Projects will include stream restoration, low impact development, wetlands mitigation design, and floodplain studies. Primary duties will include:

  • Stream restoration design, project drawings;

WSSI is seeking a Professional Land Surveyor to join our Millersville, Maryland team. The ideal candidate will be licensed with 10+ years' experience of field and office surveying practices and techniques.

DUTIES

Primary responsibilities of the position will include management of all survey projects, staff and job coordination, marketing, developing and maintaining client relationships, proposal preparation, project scoping and budgeting. A successful candidate will manage/perform all tasks related to surveying projects including Civil 3D drafting, boundary, record plats, legal descriptions, topographic, construction, bathymetric, computations, wetland and stream surveys, etc. This position will require field work.

Candidate must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times, the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively, and the willingness to learn and take on new tasks.

REQUIRED

  • College Diploma or Certificate/Degree or related education in surveying and/or Computer Drafting/Design

  • MD Licensed Surveyor

  • 10+ years of progressive surveying/drafting work experience

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Working knowledge of modern survey methods

  • Good working knowledge AutoCAD and Civil 3D software

  • Good working knowledge of Windows Explorer, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with respect to projects, CAD standards, etc. on a daily basis

  • Ability to meet job requirements/requests to achieve deadlines

  • Ability to allocate time appropriate to projects based on deadlines

  • Ability to work overtime regularly

  • Strong attention to details while maintaining consistent work flow

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision & resolve issues independently based on project/company standards

  • Willingness/ability to expand knowledge of CAD and design abilities through training

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Job responsibilities will include Virginia Pollution Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) inspections and reporting, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) development, and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands, erosion and sediment control and stormwater compliance. Willingness to work both independently and as a part of a team required. Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors is highly desirable. A Bachelor’s Degree in environmental studies, wildlife biology, or related field required. Construction related experience is a plus.  Erosion and sediment control certifications are a plus, but not required (CPESC, CESSWI, CISEC, or Virginia DEQ Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector Training & Certifications).

Thunderbird Archeology, a division of WSSI, is seeking an Associate Archeologist/Archeology Field Supervisor for immediate full-time employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Management of archeological fieldwork including Phase I, II, and III excavations, archeological cemetery delineations, and archeological recovery of human remains;

  • Preparation of complete plans and reports;

  • Conducting archeological research;

  • Assisting with proposals and interacting with clients, officials and contractors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • An advanced degree in Archeology, or a closely related field and at least three (3) years of experience in the management of archeological field projects;

  • Willingness to travel (per diem and lodging will be provided on projects more than approximately 90 miles from the office);

  • Physical ability to perform rigorous fieldwork in all settings and weather conditions;

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license; and

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Over five (5) years of experience in professional archeological research in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeastern, or Mid-West regions;

  • RPA;

  • Experience in managing archeological projects in urban environments.
